  • Business Operations

    IT Finance and Business Services provides UAB IT’s leaders and technology professionals with information and guidance for managing the financial and contractual components of their functions, including management of UAB IT’s chargeable services to customers.

    IT Talent Management serves as a strategic partner to help UAB IT achieve greater levels of effectiveness and productivity, with direct assistance in talent assessment, leadership development and change management. IT Talent Management team members work as ambassadors for UAB HR to ensure efficient delivery of HR services.

  • Client Success

    The AskIT help desk provides first-level IT support to the UAB community as a single point of contact for UAB IT. AskIT records and diagnoses issues and problems and provides feedback to second- and third-tier support, allowing UAB IT to deploy fixes or changes to ensure that technology works as needed across campus.

    IT Client Services provides UAB professionals with devices and software that empower their productivity. Client Services offers Desktop Support to contracted customers; classroom technology support to provost-connected classrooms; software and operating system installation and patching; mobile device support; and third-party application implementation and support services to campus.

    IT Communications and Marketing oversees the strategic communications for UAB IT and its services and projects and helps coordinate internal and external events. IT Communications and Marketing creates dynamic content and distributes it across a variety of media to showcase UAB IT services and the work of both UAB IT staff and customers as they use technology to help change the world.

    Process and Quality Management is composed of the Governance office and the Project Management office, or PMO. The Governance office oversees efforts to support alignment of resources across the organization to complete strategic projects for UAB IT and the University. IT is responsible for implementation and management of the IT Governance structure; oversees demand prioritization for strategic projects; and maintains the project portfolio for UAB IT. The PMO provides oversight, coordination and reporting for strategic projects across the organization. The PMO strives to provide best-in-class project support to help teams complete transformational work that provides value to students, faculty and staff.

    TechConnect, UAB’s on-campus technology store, offers high-value technology products with amazing service. The store provides on-campus support to students with limited time and transportation options; value to parents who get academic discounts, service and alignment with academic needs of their students; and assurance to faculty who can plan curricula around reliable technology.

  • Data Operations

    IT Data Operations and Business Transformations is responsible for implementing solutions and providing guidance to enable UAB to become an information-driven culture that uses data to make informed and optimal decisions. Data Operations and Business Transformations collaborates with partners across campus on initiatives that create positive outcomes for student recruitment and success; research growth; advancement; and operational effectiveness and efficiency for all areas.

  • IT Applications

    Application Consulting Services provides application and consulting services for departments who require application development assistance or expertise; project management; and vendor and product comparisons, as well as access to the systems and hardware needed to support the applications. Services are offered at a greatly reduced rate over the public market for the same services. Ongoing maintenance contracts are also available that reduce overall costs for maintenance.

    The Banner Application development team supports the Student/Advancement enterprise resource planning application, working with numerous administrative offices across campus to develop enhancements to the overall user experience. The team also develops and supports all interfaces to third-party applications where student/alumni data is required.

    The Oracle HR and Finance technical team is responsible for supporting and building extensions for the Oracle Enterprise Business Suite, an enterprise resource planning application used by UAB administration, Financial Affairs and Human Resources. The team works closely with these administrative units to support programming needs of business processes and decision making. The group is also responsible for maintaining a number of other financial and HR vendor applications.

    The Research Support team provides support services to the Research Administration offices with application management, development, reporting and IT coordination.

    User Services/Identity Management distills all of the data available from various official sources into a single profile for each person affiliated with UAB and provides some authentication and email-related services. The team provisions resources, maintains the official UAB directory and phonebook, and provides assistance to individuals needing help or having issues with one of the supported services.

  • Infrastructure & Operations

    The Application Services team provides campus-wide and unit-level applications administration and support for services such as email, web hosting, authentication services and file services.

    The Core Infrastructure team provides server hosting services for academic and business units as well as virtualization, storage and backup services for UAB IT.

    The Database Services team provides campus-wide and unit-level database hosting for Microsoft SQL, Oracle and MySQL, and Oracle-based application administration and support.

    The Operations team provides tier 3 support of UAB IT Infrastructure services, as well as code migration services, check printing, and scheduled job administration for central IT services.  This team also provides monitoring and incident response for UAB IT services.

  • Network Infrastructure

    Network Support provides an enterprise network services to campus as well as internet services to the campus and UAB Health System. The team maintains and monitors the network systems and hardware and is responsible for the design of the wired and WiFi networks in campus buildings and VPN services.

    The Telecommunications team maintains campus-wide voice and data networks. The team is responsible for installing or changing voice and data services and maintains a warehouse with all equipment to ensure inventory is available to fulfill requests or fix maintenance issues.

  • Risk Management & Compliance

    Risk Management and Compliance assists in the protection of the University’s information assets for IT-related risks and provides guidance for IT compliance. The team works to develop a sustainable and repeatable program that integrates appropriate security controls and compliance requirements to minimize organizational security risks.

  • Security Operations

    The Security Operations Center monitors information security tools and technology, detects malicious cyber behavior, and responds to information security incidents at UAB.

  • Security Architecture

    The Security Architecture team fosters an environment of heightened security following UAB security policies and standards. The team manages high-level network planning, design and optimization.

    Research Computing support for UAB investigators includes dedicated staffing, high performance computing clusters, tiered storage, high-bandwidth networks, and conditioned data center facilities for hosting and operating HPC systems, research applications and network equipment.
