Hybrid and Remote Work Policies and Procedures

UAB has a number of information security policies and guidelines in place to remain compliant with federal laws. This resource applies to all UAB employees that are fully remote or hybrid working on and off campus. Use this as a guide to ensure that you practice the appropriate procedures.

Equipment

When possible use a UAB device. If not possible, use UAB Anywhere to process sensitive and restricted data. Personal devices must meet the requirements of the Minimum Security for Computing Devices Rule and Encryption Guidelines.

Fully Remote employees can Request a quote for a computer to be shipped directly to the remote work location.

Security

Access campus resources such as data and applications through UAB Anywhere. Refer to security awareness best practices.

Connecting

Never use public WiFi. Use UAB Campus VPN or UAB Anywhere for remote work. If you are at a participating institution, you can also use eduroam.

Use UABSecure or eduroam for WiFi while on campus.

Data Storage

Use cloud storage. Refer to the cloud storage chart to determine which option works best for you, and to the classification chart to determine what type of data you should store and where. The storing of certain classifications of data is prohibited on devices (personal or UAB).
