Transforming the UAB Digital Experience

UAB is migrating approximately 350+ websites from Joomla to Drupal, leveraging the Acquia MEO (Multi-Experience Operations) platform. This phased, three-year initiative will modernize the web ecosystem and create a more scalable, accessible, and easier-to-manage digital experience across all UAB sites.

Key goals of the initiative include:

  • Creating a more consistent and user-friendly experience across sites
  • Improving accessibility and SEO performance
  • Simplifying content management and governance
  • Reducing duplicate and outdated content
  • Supporting shared and reusable content across websites (such as news & degree/programs)
  • Improving long-term platform sustainability and operational efficiency

  • When will my site be migrated?

    Migration wave assignments and timelines will be shared as planning progresses. Additional communication will be provided before your unit’s migration activities begin.

  • Will units need to help with content cleanup?

    Yes. Unit participation will be critical throughout the migration process. Content owners and stakeholders will help review and prepare content before migration into Drupal.

  • Will there be training available?

    Yes. Training materials, documentation, videos, workshops, and office hours will be provided throughout the project to support users during the transition to Drupal.

  • Will the design of my site change?

    We will be introducing standardized templates, components, and content structures intended to create a more consistent and accessible experience across UAB websites. There may be some slight changes to the look of your pages. We will communicate on what changes to expect.
