Anand Iyer, M.D., MSPH, (Assistant Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care) co-chaired a policy statement in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine which highlights ten fundamental values and principles of palliative care in serious illness and proposes seven policy recommendations across palliative care domains. Recommendations include comprehensive individualized assessments, collaboration with informal caregivers, and advanced research.

Mustafa Ahmed, M.D., (Associate Professor, CVD) and colleagues used cardiac MR tissue tagging to examine biomarkers that could help inform surgical interventions among asymptomatic patients with primary mitral regurgitation.

Ellen Eaton, M.D., (Associate Professor, Infectious Diseases) will serve as a National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine Scholar which facilitates mentorship opportunities and enhances leadership. Kudos, Dr. Eaton!

Tom Buford, Ph.D., (Professor, Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care) and colleagues note that healthy lifestyle habits such as physical activity and healthy eating can improve longevity, chronic diseases, and mental health.

Cardiovascular Disease faculty Drs. Julian Booker and Efstathia Andrikopoulou partnered with a data intelligence firm to develop an algorithm that provides clinical decision support to identify patients at risk for heart valve disease.

Suzanne Oparil, M.D., (Distinguished Professor, CVD) is the recipient of the 2022 International Society of Hypertension Franz Volhard Award and Lectureship for Outstanding Research in recognition of her contributions to hypertension research.
