Good News Update: February 1, 2016
Dialysis Clinic, Inc. surprised Professor Emeritus Ed Rutsky, MD, this week with the announcement that DCI will contribute $1.5 million to the Division of Nephrology to establish an endowed chair in his honor. Attendees at the NRTC conference where the announcement took place report that for the first time in memory, Dr. Rutsky was rendered speechless! The Department is most grateful for Fred Steading, administrator for one of the Birmingham DCI units, and Azita Takeshian, a former UAB nephrology fellow, who were instrumental in making this enduring tribute to Dr. Rutsky possible.

The first kidney transplant at the Birmingham VA Medical Center in 50 years was successfully performed on January 5, 2016. The transplant program includes doctors who practice at UAB Hospital and the VA.
