Two faculty from the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology have been honored by the American College of Rheumatology for their contributions to research. John Mountz, MD, PhD, was named the 2016 ACR Distinguished Basic Investigator, and Jasvinder Singh, MD, was named the 2016 ACR Henry Kunkel Young Investigator.

More than 20 faculty and staff presented the annual State of the Department of Medicine on Wednesday. The address focused on our five strategic priorities, with success stories from each area: Patient Care, Education, Research, Sustainability, and Culture. The Department of Medicine is tremendously proud of the five philanthropic endowments that were recently established by the UA Board of Trustees:

• J. Edwin Blalock, PhD (Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine) now holds the Nancy E. Dunlap, MD, Endowed Chair in Pulmonary Disease.
• Mark Dransfield, MD (Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine) now holds the William C. Bailey, MD, Endowed Chair in Pulmonary Disease.
• Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, MPH (Director, Infectious Diseases) now holds the C. Glenn Cobbs, MD, Endowed Professorship in Infectious Diseases.
• Jasvinder Singh, MD, MPH (Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology) now holds the Endowed Professorship in Musculoskeletal Outcomes Research.
• Ashita Tolwani, MD (Nephrology) now holds the DCI/Edwin A. Rutsky, MD, Endowed Professorship in Nephrology.

A Home Run for FUN! Last Saturday, the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine held its annual fall picnic at George Ward Park. The faculty won against the fellows (6-4) in a spirited softball showdown, and everyone enjoyed the festive family fun.

For the first time ever, Renal won Argus Award for Best MS1 Organ Module. This is a testament to the tremendous efforts of all three Co-Directors: Nephrologists Eric Judd, MD, and Vineeta Kumar, MD, and Mark Bevensee, PhD (Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology) as well as the enthusiastic involvement of the Division of Nephrology. Kudos on this terrific recognition from the medical students!
