George Netto webWelcome to the UAB Department of Pathology in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. We pride ourselves on being a national leader in clinical services, experimental and translational research, and teaching.

We're excited to have you learn more about our department. Our team of 90 faculty includes national experts in a wide range of anatomic and clinical pathology subspecialties, providing state-of-the-art clinical services with over 65,000 AP specimens and 6 million laboratory procedures completed last year.

Our commitment to diversity across the department is reflected in our 2nd and 3rd place wins in the School’s annual Diversity Fair for the past 3 years. We offer innovative training in the form of AP/CP residency, fellowship and post-graduate training programs that are among the finest in the country.

Our annual extramurally-funded research portfolio continues to earn us a spot in the top 15 among all pathology departments in the U.S. from the prestigious Blue Ridge Rankings. The advent of a new decade brings us many exciting developments. We expanded our ranks with the addition of 10 new faculty members across our 6 divisions, including the recruitment of directors in Neuropathology and Genomic Diagnostics and Bioinformatics. We are excited to highlight the growth of our offerings in molecular and genetic diagnostics, including the new Precision Diagnostics Laboratory, which will advance worktoward the development of a large assortment of powerful bioinformatic pipelines.
