BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Alys Stephens Center Young Patrons presents the ASC Kids’ Club, a new program at the Alys Stephens Center designed to provide quality arts experiences for children age 7 to 12. The ASC Kids’ Club, chaired by Young Patrons member Courtney Stephens and sponsored by Jane Stephens Comer, is still in development and coordinators are interested in input from parents and their children.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, January 26, the Alys Stephens Center will kick off the program with an inaugural performance for kids and a “coffee break” in the Patron’s Lounge for parents. The coffee break will be a fun time for parents to relax, and it will offer the Alys Stephens Center an opportunity to ask what benefits parents expect from a children’s arts program.

While parents are enjoying coffee and pastries, children will enjoy the first performance of the "What's So Great About" series. Each performance of the ASC Kids’ Club will be called "What's So Great About" and will focus on a different arts discipline, including dance, music and poetry. The January 26 performance will focus on opera. “What's So Great About … Opera!” will introduce kids to the joys of opera with a 35-minute performance followed by a discussion of opera basics and a question-and-answer session. The performance will be held in the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall.

Tickets for the performance are $7 for the children of Young Patrons members and $10 for others. To order tickets or to become a Young Patrons member, come by the ASC Box Office at 1200 10th Ave. S. or call (205) 975-2787.
