BIRMINGHAM, AL — Sheila Moore, director of the Institutional Review Board at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has earned certification as an IRB Professional from the Council for Certification of IRB Professionals (CCIP), an affiliate of the Applied Research Ethics National Association (ARENA).

Certification is an indication of current knowledge in a specialized area of practice. It provides formal recognition of knowledge of IRB functions and human subject protections systems. The certification exam evaluates an individual's knowledge of ethical principles, historical events, regulatory requirements, and operational and functional issues relating to IRBs and human subjects protection programs.
