BIRMINGHAM, AL — Part of the proceeds from UAB’s sale of its renal dialysis facilities in 1998 are being used to establish two endowed professorships and an endowed program support fund. The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees made the action official at its recent meeting in Huntsville.

An endowed professorship in Transplant Nephrology will support a faculty member’s research and treatment objectives relating to the medical evaluation and care of patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease.

An endowed professorship in Nephrology Leadership will support a faculty member’s interests as well as the training and education of fellows and students in the School of Medicine.

A Nephrology Research and Training Endowment will support research and training directed at the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of kidney disease and hypertension, as well as enhance public awareness of these health issues.
