. Daniel Osborn, director of administration and finance at UAB’s School of Optometry, has been named associate provost for administration and finance for the University.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — J. Daniel Osborn, director of administration and finance at UAB’s School of Optometry, has been named associate provost for administration and finance for the University. UAB Interim Provost Arol Augsburger announced the appointment today.

“Dan brings a wealth of talent and expertise to this position that will help us improve our responsiveness to the Schools and academic programs at UAB,” Augsburger said.

An alumnus of UAB, Osborn earned his bachelor of science in business administration in (1981), as well as master’s degrees in public health (1989) and business administration (1992). While working on his undergraduate degree, Osborn served as an internal auditor at UAB for four years. He then joined Tandy Computer and Business Products to manage the opening of a computer store in Birmingham. He rejoined UAB in 1983, serving as an accountant and assistant to the deans of the Graduate School and then the School of Nursing. Osborn then joined the University of South Alabama as executive director for the Department of Medicine, a position he held until returning to UAB in 1999.

Osborn is a member of the American Public Health Association, the Medical Group Management Association and the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
