BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The American Marketing Association (AMA) named the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business AMA student chapter a Top 20 International AMA Collegiate Chapter during its 32nd annual International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, April 8-10.

The group earned outstanding ratings in three of six considered categories - chapter planning, communication and professional development - to win its spot in the Top 20, says Lauren Beitelspacher, Ph.D., a UAB assistant professor of marketing and chapter faculty adviser. The top chapters were chosen from more than 190 AMA collegiate chapters operating internationally.

"We are very proud to have the UAB AMA mentioned among the top chapters worldwide," Beitelspacher says. "UAB's location in the heart of Alabama's primary business center gives our students wonderful access to the state's business leaders, and those opportunities are reflected in our strong communication and professional-development rankings."

Beitelspacher says the UAB AMA sponsors regular professional-development lectures at the School of Business, bringing in some of Birmingham's most influential executives and business leaders to share their experiences with chapter members.

"If you want to be the best you need to work with the best, and the UAB AMA puts our student members in direct contact with the best in business so that the students can learn beyond the traditional classroom lecture," Beitelspacher says. "One of the reasons the AMA feels our chapter is a standout group is because of the unique industry partnerships we have."
