UAB Safe streamRegistration is open now for spring intramurals, many of which are played at UAB’s Intramural Sports Complex — unlike in UAB’s early years, when teams played outdoor sports at local parks before fields were built on campus.

Maggie Amsler, a benthic ecologist and longtime member of UAB’s Antarctic research team, has been selected for membership in The Explorers Club inaugural Explorers 50 program, which recognizes remarkable people working to change the world and extend the meaning and impact of exploration.

Ashley Neyer, Education Abroad director, earned the Forum on Education Abroad’s Professional Certification in Education Abroad, which provides those who work in the global education field with specialized knowledge and expertise — all of which will guide the continued growth of UAB Education Abroad.

The partnership with KinderCare, a national leader in childcare and early childhood education, will double the number of UAB families who can access on-campus childcare at below-market rates in a new, larger, state-of-the-art facility.

The certification, normally $1,500, is $650 for students and $750 for nonstudents.

2020: The year in photos

Each year, UAB’s official photographers capture tens of thousands of images as they document the incredible variety of events and personalities that make up our community. Here are some of our favorite photos of some of the most dramatic months in UAB history.

The Townhouse Park is home to three laser-cut, stainless steel towers with programmed LED lighting featuring art patterns displaying chalkboard-style mathematical equations and the view through a microscope.

The first installment, “Bending the Arc: The Vote,” which tells the stories of Black people and white allies who fought for racial justice during the 1960s, is the collaborative effort of retired and current UAB employees and community partners.
