computer devicesEmployees will have free access to Lynda.com, an online learning site where users can learn or improve skills, beginning Sept. 15.

The site provides a video library of courses that cover a wide range of material — from web development, photography and coding to resume writing and setting up a home office. Access is open to benefit-eligible employees of UAB, UAB Health System, UAHSF, Viva and Callahan Eye Hospital. Just login www.uab.edu/lynda using a Blazer ID and password.

“Lynda.com will be a game-changer for learning and development at UAB,” said Susan Coan, director of Organizational Learning & Development. “Faculty and staff will have a wider range of learning options — from certificate programs to help develop career-changing skills to just-in-time videos for 24/7 learning.”

Each course is a series of short videos, so users can learn at their own pace and on their own time. All videos are viewable on computers or via Lynda.com’s mobile app for iPhone, iPad or Android.

Lynda also offers a feature called Learning Paths, in which courses are curated by specific job titles to offer a starting point for different jobs and professions.
