Introduction

University Programs Board

The University Programs Board (UPB) works as a cohesive unit to plan, market, and execute events for the student body. UPB strives to provide free, quality entertainment that will ultimately provide opportunities that connect students to campus.

Mission:

To foster students' connections to both the campus & Birmingham communities by providing opportunities for engagement through student-led signature and monthly programming.

Goals:

  1. Provide opportunities for students to make connections with their peers and develop a sense of belonging and institutional pride.
  2. Expose students and the UAB community to a broad range of traditional and contemporary activities for both leisure and educational purposes.
  3. Collaborate with other Student Activities Boards and campus partners to create intentional programming opportunities for students and advance campus engagement.

Values:

  • Service- Programming is a service to the 20,000 students on campus. We believe in encouraging students to take ownership of their commitment to serve their campus community.
  • Community- We believe in fostering a sense of belonging among the UAB student body through activities that provide opportunities to make positive connections and build long-lasting relationships.
  • Collaboration - We believe in Interdependent co-operation at all levels, ensuring full and appropriate delegation of responsibility takes place.
  • Creativity- We believe in encouraging the transcendence of traditional ideas to create meaningful new ideas, relationships, and opportunities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have completed 12 hours at UAB prior to applying & maintain 12 hours of enrollment during the 2020-2021 academic year
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative UAB GPA the semester prior to applying & maintain a 2.5 cumulative UAB GPA during the 2020-2021 academic year
  • Must be able to meet bi-weekly during the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters. Fall and Spring meetings are at 4 pm every 1st and 3rd Monday.

  • Executive Director

    The Executive Director (ED) provides guidance and support in the planning and implementation for all events and initiatives and provides leadership to the executive board through meeting management and teambuilding activities. The also ED assists with assessment and budget management.

  • Marketing & Outreach Committee

    The Marketing & Outreach Committee assists with creating marketing materials and developing creative marketing strategies to promote all events. They also oversee all social media accounts and promotional contests. This is also tasked with capturing photos and videos during events. Additionally, the committee is tasked with overseeing functional operations of the board including but not limited to managing meeting minutes, tracking attendance and updating rosters through Engage, reserving event space and submitting event logistics, requesting appropriate event equipment, and overseeing rules & regulations for competitive events.

  • Monthly Events Committee

    The Monthly Events Committee is responsible for planning and implementing a variety of engaging monthly activities for the student body including, but not limited to films, novelty events, HSC Live Mini Concert Series, and other interactive activities. Monthly events will be held every second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday.

  • Signature Events Committee

    The Signature Events Committee is responsible for planning and implementing largescale annual or semi-annual events including Stress Less Week (Fall and Spring semesters), UAB’s Got Talent, Fall Leadership Conference and Creed Week lectures, Blazer Welcome Bash, Homecoming Comedy Show and/or Concert, Magic City Adventures, and talent and entertainment for International Festival.

  • First Impact Committee

    This committee will be selected at the beginning of the Fall semester and will work to support the events planned by the executive board. They will also be tasked with identifying creative ways to engage the student body in athletic events and assist with UPB general events. Click HERE for more information about this program.

UPB selects 8-10 First Impact applicants each year to volunteer for programming throughout the year.
