The HSF-GEF provides support to multidisciplinary projects in clinical care, medical education, lab research, and patient-oriented research. The fund has awarded nearly $64 million for 316 projects since it began in 1996. The overarching goal is to enhance key infrastructure.

Any UAB faculty member can apply, with approval of their department chair in UAB Medicine. The principal investigator does not have to hold a primary appointment in UAB Medicine so long as a co-investigator who is a member of a department within the academic medical center is included on the proposal (with approval of the co-investigator’s department chair).

An application packet and guidelines are available for download here. Applications are due by 4pm Friday June 30, 2017. Funding decisions will be released on Oct. 23, with funding made available on Nov. 1.
