How can we ensure that research participants fully grasp a project's intricacies when they consent? Are we confident they understand their commitments, like attending appointments or bringing necessary items? Do you think they could explain the risks?
Join us for ACTion Learning as we delve into the nuanced methods of ensuring consent is truly informed.
ACTion Learning uses local actors to illustrate real-life scenarios, where you serve as the “director”, molding the scene. No role-play is involved, so you can experience the reactions and consequences in a stress-free learning environment. Theories and models become practical because they become personal.
This event is geared toward clinical research professionals of any level, trainees, and PIs - anyone who might conduct the consent interview or interact with participants at any phase of the research process. This is a great companion for those attending CITP or RTP.
Participants who attend will see strategies employed when encountering a potential participant who may need help understanding the details of the project.
Learning objectives include:
- Understand the subtle cues that indicate that participants may still have questions or do not understand what was said.
- Become familiar with strategies for ensuring understanding through Teach Back and Chunk and Check methods.
- PIs and all research staff will be better able to communicate with one another to manage expectations of consent.
