The theme of the Spring 2017 Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program Meeting in Washington, DC, on April 18, 2017, is, “Uncovering Grand Opportunities in Translational Science.” The goal of the meeting is to engage the CTSA Program community to (1) deepen shared understanding of current challenges in clinical and translational science and (2) stimulate collective brainstorming on ways to catalyze scientific advances that will ultimately enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.

The CCTS will attend this unique “think-tank” and seeks your input on the following questions:

  • What are the key areas in translational science that are deemed important, but have not received sufficient attention?
  • What are the gap areas in current knowledge in translational science?
  • What are the areas that have been previously difficult to explore, but could now become accessible to an investigation because of recent scientific discoveries and/or technical advances?
  • What are impediments to implementation and/or dissemination of local examples of innovation that are primed to make an impact in translational science?

Together, the CCTS, the CTSA Consortium, and the NIH will use this meeting as the chance to move beyond just supporting high-quality research to making an indelible impact on human health in the near future (5-10 years).
