About the Program

If you’re interested in vision disorders, eye diseases, and public access to and awareness of vision care, our MPH/OD program can give you the training you need to make sustainable, long-term eye care improvements for both individual patients and specific populations. We can teach you to develop, administer, and evaluate vision health and educational programs related to vision health and safety, as well as conduct and analyze field and case studies.

Our MPH/OD program is offered in conjunction with the UAB School of Optometry, and you must already be admitted to the UAB School of Optometry to be accepted to this program. Your MPH will provide you with a foundation in public health that’s centered around an evidence-based public health model. The MPH program can be completed online and will share up to 12 credit hours with the OD program, so you can complete your degree in a timely manner. During your studies, we’ll offer you opportunities to focus additional training in areas such as healthcare organization, health behavior and program development, health policy, and many other areas of public health. To find more information about the OD program, visit the UAB School of Optometry website.
