- New Position: A permanent position that needs to be created or a position that is temporary. The position must be classified before the recruitment process can begin.
- Replacement Position: A vacant position that needs to be filled using the same job classification (job title, job grade, etc.). Note: If there are major changes to the job description, then you may need to reclassify the position, see Section 1.4 - Reclassify an Existing Positoin.

- Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity
- The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was intended to remove pay differentials between males and females performing the same or similar work at the same facility.
- Title VII of the Civil Rights Act was enacted in 1964 and made it unlawful to discriminate in employment based upon race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. This act also established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to implement and enforce the Act.
- Age Discrimination in Employment Act prohibits discrimination against people who are age 40 or older.
