Our internal medicine residency program is structured to provide a diverse clinical experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our residents provide care at two unique hospital sites and two continuity clinic sites, all within five city blocks. Our inpatient training sites include University Hospital, a 1,100 bed tertiary care referral center for the Southeast and the Birmingham Veteran's Administration Medical Center.

Across all sites, you will experience clinical rotations in general medicine, medical and cardiology intensive care, and all the medical subspecialties. During your three years, you will learn to diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical illnesses, both common conditions and rare diseases that involve complex clinical reasoning. As you hone your clinical skills, our curricular structure provides progressive autonomy in a supportive environment, with sincere collegiality and abundant opportunities for scholarship.
