Cardio Oncology

Staff Diversity Liaisons group was created by the Heersink School of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion to increase support and programming for the professional advancement of underrepresented staff. The Department of Medicine has six representatives who serve as a part of this group to provide feedback on priorities, initiatives, and activities. These individuals are passionate about promoting diversity and creating a culture of inclusion for people from all genders, ages, cultures, and backgrounds. More Good News for April 22, 2022

Chao He, M.D., Ph.D., (Assistant Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine) earned a 2022 UAB Faculty Development Grant Program Award which will provide seed funding for his proposal to investigate disparities that impact streptococcus pneumonia.

Jennifer Pollock, Ph.D., (Professor, Nephrology) recently completed her term as president of the American Physiological Society. She has been instrumental in supporting APS throughout the pandemic and will continue to serve on its council. Well done, Dr. Pollock!

Anand Iyer M.D., (Assistant Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine) received the Annals of the American Thoracic Society Reviewer Award in recognition of his dedication to providing high-quality and timely reviews for Annals ATS.

IM Resident, Gabriela Gastanadui, M.D., (PGY-2) earned the Research Resident Scholar Award which supports the research career development of residents who have made a commitment to an academic career after training.

Please join us in welcoming Assistant Professor Calia Morais, Ph.D., to the UAB Division of Hematology and Oncology. Dr. Morais' interests include pain inequities research, cultural adaptations of assessment tools,and psychosocial treatments for chronic pain management.

Thom Mayer, M.D., Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University and Medical Director of the NFL will present Leading for Great Patient Experience: Getting the "Why" Right Before the "How" at noon on Wednesday, April 27, via Zoom.
