Pittman Scholars
Pittman Scholars, named for the late James A. Pittman, M.D., longtime dean of the School of Medicine from 1973 to 1992, are nominated by their department chairs based on their research achievements and their potential for continued discovery in the basic or clinical sciences.
Awardees are assistant professors who have held that rank for fewer than five years.
Dean's Excellence Awards
The Dean’s Excellence Awards are annual honors to recognize outstanding contributions made by faculty across the School of Medicine—one to a junior faculty member (instructor or assistant professor) and the other to a senior faculty member (associate professor or full professor)—in the areas of service, teaching, research, mentorship and diversity enhancement.
Awardees are selected through a peer-review process facilitated by a member of the dean’s leadership team.
Brewer-Heslin Award
Founded in 2015, the Brewer-Heslin Award recognizes those who exhibit excellence in patient care and is named for the late Alabama Governor Albert P. Brewer and Martin Heslin, M.D., a longtime UAB surgeon leader.
