UAB Excellence. Individualized attention. A Community Where You Can Thrive.

UAB Montgomery offers the best of both worlds: the personalized training environment of a small residency program and the academic resources, reputation, and support of the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. With a 50-year history of training physicians, our program allows residents to be known personally by faculty and program leadership and to receive individualized mentorship throughout all three years of training.

Our program size translates directly into opportunity. Residents are not competing for faculty attention, procedures, research, or meaningful clinical experiences. Instead, our residents develop procedural skills quickly, work closely with faculty, and receive thoughtful, individualized feedback and mentorship. For those who pursue fellowship, faculty members know our residents well and can provide strong, personalized letters of recommendation based on meaningful longitudinal interactions.

Residents benefit from the resources and academic infrastructure of UAB, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. Our training sites provide exposure to a broad spectrum of pathology, including common community illnesses as well as complex and high-acuity diseases. Baptist Medical Center South is a Level I Trauma Center and regional referral center, providing a particularly rich clinical environment for developing the skills needed to care for medically complex patients, in addition to dedicated high-quality clinical rotations in all the medical subspecialties.

Our program places a strong emphasis on longitudinal outpatient training. Dedicated continuity clinic allows residents to build their own patient panels, follow patients over time, and develop meaningful physician-patient relationships throughout residency. This combination of high-acuity inpatient medicine, diverse pathology, substantial outpatient experience and quality subspecialty training prepares graduates for careers in primary care, medical subspecialty fellowships, or hospital medicine.

For applicants looking for a residency where they will not get lost in the crowd, UAB Montgomery offers the academic opportunities and reputation of a major university medical center combined with the close-knit environment, individualized mentorship, and abundant clinical opportunities.

At UAB Montgomery, our goal is simple: to help you become the best physician–the best version of yourself–you can be.
