Getting ready to submit your F30?

Before applying for an F award, applicants should carefully review the applicable Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the fellowship of interest, noting especially the eligibility requirements, requirements for a mentor, review criteria, award provisions, and any special application instructions. Each FOA contains more specific information associated with the award mechanism and includes names of individuals who may be contacted prior to submission of an application for additional or clarifying information.

Guidelines for NIH fellowships may be found on the NIH website.

Follow the F30 checklist along with the SF424 Fellowship application guide. You can find individual funding success rates here

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP)

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) requires that the complete proposal along with the required supporting documents (i.e., Extramural Checklist, RPL, Funding Opportunity Announcement) must be received in OSP no later than 8AM , five (5) full business days prior to the sponsor’s deadline.

Any incomplete or late submission to OSP will not be accepted for review by OSP or submission to the sponsor without an approved exception. The sponsor’s deadline is the date and time for the cutoff as shown in the funding announcement. We recommend you visit the Proposal Due Date and Time Calculator to determine a specific time line of submission.

Submit the final version with the final science and any revisions that were recommended during the review at least two (2) full business days before the sponsor’s posted deadline. Make NO changes other than to the science and issues pointed out by OSP.

Note: Not all NIH Institutes and Centers participate in all Parent Announcements. Applicants should carefully note which ICs participate in this announcement and view their respective areas of research interest and requirements at the Table of IC-Specific Information, Requirements and Staff Contacts website. ICs that do not participate in this announcement will not consider applications for funding. Prior consultation with NIH staff is strongly encouraged.
