BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Hospital today received commendation from the Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Mayor Bernard Kincaid for its development and implementation of an internship program for minority students interested in health care administration.

“Having knowledge of the need for minorities in the field of hospital administration, I wanted to take the time to commend this much needed program and those responsible for developing it,” said Council President William Bell.

The internship offers one undergraduate student a 12-week internship that provides a real-life work experience and exposure to management issues facing UAB Hospital and the health care industry in general.

“Many of us at UAB Hospital have been asked by minority students about the field of hospital and health care administration,” said Martin Nowak, executive director of UAB Hospital. “Chris Mosley (associate executive director at UAB Hospital) has worked with people throughout the institution to create an excellent learning experience that exposes high performing undergraduate students to the rigors of serving as an administrator in a health care facility.”
