Frank Messina, D.B.A., C.P.A., associate professor of accounting at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business, has been named editor of The Cooperative Accountant, a quarterly peer-review journal published by the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives (NSAC).

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Frank Messina, D.B.A., C.P.A., associate professor of accounting at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business, has been named editor of The Cooperative Accountant, a quarterly peer-review journal published by the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives (NSAC).

NSAC is a professional society comprised of about 2,000 individual members actively involved with the financial management and planning of cooperative business. Cooperative businesses include credit unions, mutual insurance companies, banking, housing, HMOs, childcare, supply and agriculture.

Messina earned his Doctor of Business Administration and his Master of Professional Accountancy from Mississippi State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of West Alabama. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Accounting Association — Tax Section, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Alabama Society of CPAs, Institute of Management Accountants, Birmingham Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and Decision Sciences Institute.

His research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including CPA Journal, Journal of Taxation, Journal of Energy, Decision Sciences, Finance & Development and Journal of Property Management.
