BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's Alys Stephens Center will offer beginning acting for adults each Monday night Jan. 25-March 15 at the center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The classes will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; cost is $100. To register, call the Alys Stephens Center Box Office at 205-975-2787.

Acting instructor Alicia Johnson will direct this beginning acting workshop for adults. During the eight-week course students will learn basic skills - theater terminology, voice and diction, improvisation, character development - and more through acting games, lessons and exercises.

By the course end, participants will have a prepared monologue for auditions. A showcase performance for all participants is scheduled for March 15. All classes will take place in the Alys Stephens Center Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall.
