The theme of the concert, "Vox Humana," focuses on the worlds of experimental computer music and the written word. The program is curated by UAB Assistant Professor of Music William Price, D.M.A., and features works by composers Matthew Dotson, James Mobberley and John Crabtree.

UAB Music presents the annual Fourth of July Concert, 7:30 p.m., on the lawn at UAB's Bartow Arena, 617 13th St. South. Free admission. Call 205-934-7376 or go to www.music.uab.edu. The 75-member UAB Summer Band will perform patriotic songs, traditional band music, pop tunes, Disney favorites, movie and Broadway themes and more. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for the concert then watch the fireworks show atop Red Mountain. Win a chance to conduct the band. The band is directed by Sue Samuels, Ph.D.

UAB Gospel Choir Youth Gospel Choir Workshop, UAB Hulsey Center, 950 13th St. South. The UAB Youth Gospel Choir is for ages 12-18. The fee is $20. The workshop choir will be limited to 120 voices (40 voices per section) and will be closed once the roster is full. Both the UAB Gospel Choir and the Youth Gospel Choir will perform live July 25 at the choir's annual summer concert at UAB's Alys Stephens Center. The choir is directed by Kevin Turner, D.D. This year the choir will host the annual summer concert on a Sunday. The concert will feature a combined UAB Gospel Choir and a first-ever UAB Youth Workshop Gospel Choir. UAB is the first all-Steinway piano school in Alabama.
