BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of English has established the English Recruiting Endowed Scholarship, an action that was approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees during its June 18 meeting.

The UAB English Advisory Board, chaired by John Cobbs, developed the scholarship to support education by providing financial assistance to recruit and assist deserving students in the UAB Department of English.

The UAB English Advisory Board comprises members of the Birmingham community who have an interest in English or are involved in the writing profession as authors, editors, publishers and related occupations. Board members support the UAB Department of English by planning and attending various fundraising, cultural and education events for the benefit of Department of English students, faculty and staff.
