We know there are a number of reasons students consider transferring from their current college or university. We also know you might have concerns about transferring current course work, meeting program prerequisites, managing timelines, and more. We want to help you through the process of applying to UAB School of Nursing as a transfer student.

Criteria for applying to the BSN program

If you are interested in applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program you should:
  • Have an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), and RN License or will have one prior to admission to UAB; OR
  • Have a Bachelor of Science (BS) or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or higher from an accredited university; OR
  • Transferring from another university or two-year community college and completed all foundation and prerequisite courses elsewhere.

Before applying to UAB 



  • Student should send official or unofficial transcript (include school form) to sonstudaffrs@uab.edu.
  • Transcripts will be evaluated by School of Nursing (please allow a couple of weeks for processing)
  • School of Nursing will set-up meeting or phone conference with student
  • If admission criteria is met, student will apply to UAB for admission:
--BSN - GPA must be greater than 2.75
--RN-BSN - GPA must be  greater than 2.5 for the RN-BSN and the student should have two or fewer prerequisites* to complete) *Accepts prerequisites from regionally accredited schools
