  • HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act training

    Follow the steps below to complete HIPAA training:

    ***If you have taken HIPAA training with another healthcare institution, you will need to retake it through UAB’s Campus Learning system in order to complete the requirement and receive credit.

    New UAB School of Nursing Students

    (Do not go directly into CAMPUS LEARNING, use the link provided)

    To access the HIPAA training course go to: click here (clicking the link enrolls you into the course)

    • Click on LOGIN WITH BLAZERID
    • Login using your BlazerID/Username and Password
    • Successful completion is considered a score of 75% or better. If unsuccessful, repeat these steps until you have a satisfactory score.
    • You can see your certificate in the Campus Learning System by going to “My Activities” located on the homepage; however, https://www.uab.edu/learninglocker is the repository for full training history. Courses completed within the campus learning system will be logged into the Learning Locker within 1 business day

    Returning/Current UAB School of Nursing Students or Previous/Current UAB Employees

    If you have completed HIPAA with UAB as a Previous Student or Employee, you will need to send a copy of your Certificate to the Office of Student Success via email (sonstudaffrs@uab.edu) or fax to 205.934.5490.

    • To view and email/print your HIPAA certificate in the Campus Learning System go to https://www.uab.edu/learninglocker.
    • LOGIN WITH BLAZER ID
    • Select “View Certificate” and either Print or Email your Certificate to the Office of Student Success.

    The School of Nursing will have access electronically to your training. Once you complete the training you should expect 2 business days before your hold is removed.

    If you are having problems accessing Campus Learning or accessing your course/certificate, please email campuslearning@uab.edu. Please include a phone number where you can be reached. This phone should be near your computer so that someone can assist you.

  • OSHA - Bloodborne Pathogens (OSHA) training

    OSHA Certification - “Occupational Safety and Health Administration” is a requirement of the U.S. Dept. of Labor. “The UAB Department of Occupational Health & Safety's mission is to ensure that our customers have a safe workplace by providing them with the service and knowledge necessary to protect themselves, the UAB community, and the environment.” “Bloodborne Pathogens Course – BIO 500”.

    Follow the steps below to complete Bloodborne Pathogens (OSHA) training:

    To access the OSHA training course click here. (by clicking on the link you will be enrolled in the course)

    Bloodborne Pathogens Course is REQUIRED ANNUALLY.

    ****Newly admitted students will not have access to the course until 60 days prior to the first day of the term they are admitted for.****

    Follow the steps below to complete Bloodborne Pathogens (OSHA) training:

    • Click on “Login with BlazerNet”
    • Log in using your BlazerID and password
    • Click on “Bloodborne Pathogens Course”
    • You will need to click on and go through “Course Material, Reality Check, Course Assessment and Course Evaluation”
    • You can see your certificate in the Campus Learning System by going to “My Activities” located on the homepage; however, https://www.uab.edu/learninglocker is the repository for full training history. Courses completed within the campus learning system will be logged into the Learning Locker within 1 business day.

    Returning & Current UAB School of Nursing Students (1 year or older)

    • Log in to Campus Learning https://uab.docebosaas.com/learn
    • Click on LOGIN WITH BLAZERID
    • Log in using your BlazerID and password
    • Upper left corner click on
    • From the landing page-upper right side-you will choose MY ACTIVITIES from the profile section
      • Under ‘My Activities’ you will choose Certification – this will take you to the ‘Certification and Retraining’ page
    • Click on RENEW NOW – this will direct you to the course that requires re-certification* (All previous certificate’s will be available in the Learning Locker)
    • You will need to click on and go through Course Material, Reality Check, Course Assessment and Course Evaluation
    • You can see your certificate in the Campus Learning System by going to “My Activities” located on the homepage; however, https://www.uab.edu/learninglocker is the repository for full training history. Courses completed within the campus learning system will be logged into the Learning Locker within 1 business day.

  • CPR - CPR Certification

    All undergraduate students with a CPR hold can drop a signed copy of their updated CPR certification to Pat Little in room NB 1003 (School of Nursing Building) or email a scanned copy (front and back of card) to plittle2@uab.edu.

    If your CPR is out of date & you need to update your CPR certification – Accepted CPR training: American Heart Association's BLS

  • Drug Screen and Background Check

    Students who need a background check and drug screen will receive two emails to their @uab.edu email account. Students have 10 days to complete both steps and will be notified prior to the start of the next semester.

    1. Expect an email for the background check from UABSchoolofNursingXXXX@screening.services, DISA Global Solutions. Please note, the program you are enrolled in will be denoted where the XXXX is within the email. (Ex. UABSchoolofNursingMSN@screening.services).
    2. Complete the background check.
    3. Pay for the background check and drug screening.
    4. Expect an email for the drug screening from OTSWEBAPP@Labcorp.com.
      • This email will arrive within 24 to 48 hours after payment has been received, and will contain your drug screen registration number.
      • *NOTE: If you are unable to provide an adequate urine sample, you will be charged an additional $50.00 fee for a second sample attempt.
      • The second email should also provide a link to find the Labcorp sites nearest your residence in order to complete the drug screen.
      • Additionally, some sites will allow you to schedule an appointment.

    You will have 10 business days from receipt of your background check email to complete both the background check and drug screen – please check your spam, junk, or clutter folders if you do not receive the background email.

  • POS - Program of Study

  • HI - Proof of Insurance

    Mandatory Insurance RequiredAnnually

    Students who already have their own personal insurance coverage have the option to waive the VIVA Student coverage. The student must sign a waiver stating that he/she has major medical insurance that is comparable or superior to the Viva plan. The major medical insurance coverage must meet the following minimum standards:

    • Physician and hospital coverage with providers in Alabama
    • Minimum of $500,000 lifetime maximum benefit
    • Transplant Coverage

    Students will need to provide the insurance company name and policy number for verification. Students may sign the waiver online at the link below. (Students entering in the summer semester should check the box for the fall semester.)

  • LOA - Leave of Absence

    LOA Semester YearAs applicable

    A Leave of Absence (LOA) can be taken for a maximum of two consecutive semesters away before having to reapply for admission into the School of Nursing. A student may have a built-in LOA shown on their Program of Study. Also, students can apply for a LOA for personal reasons such as an illness. Once a student is approved for an LOA, a hold will be put on their record. The hold will be automatically removed prior to the next open registration period of the semester they are expected to re-enroll.

    • Go to the Academic Calendar Academic Calendar located at https://www.uab.edu/students/academics/academic-calendar or select “quick links” then select Academic Calendar to view when classes begin and late registration. You will be charged with late registration fees if you do not register before the deadline.
