Annual performance evaluation cycle open now: Here’s what you need to know

rep performance review 2023 550pxPerformance management at UAB is an ongoing process whereby managers and employees assess job performance, set goals and action plans, and recognize achievement.

UAB’s performance evaluation cycle for 2023 opens July 1. Employees must submit self-evaluations and have conversations with their managers, and managers must complete their evaluations, by Sept. 30. Eligible full-time (01) and part-time (03) regular-status employees in workgroup A will complete self-evaluations in the Performance App; all faculty evaluations will continue to be uploaded into the Performance App.

What’s new

This year, the My Goals section of the Performance App form has been separated from the My Self Evaluation section. Employees are now able to view, add and amend goals throughout the year, as well as access their past, current and future goals. This change aims to encourage engagement and assist employees and their supervisors during regular and quarterly check-in conversations throughout the year.

UAB Learning and Development is offering three instructor-led training programs during the performance evaluation cycle.

For staff

Performance Evaluation: Staff - Making the Most of Your Review covers UAB’s overall strategy for performance management and the annual evaluation action steps, as well as self-assessment and preparation tips for a successful two-way conversation. Sessions will be held:

  • July 20, 9-10:30 a.m.
  • July 28, 9:30-11 a.m.
  • Aug. 8, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 24, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 12, 1:30-3 p.m.
  • Sept. 21, 9:30-11 a.m.

For managers:

Performance Evaluation: Planning and Conversations for Managers covers UAB’s overall strategy for performance management as well as planning, feedback, conversation recommendations and action steps to submit an annual evaluation form. Sessions will be held:

  • July 11, 2:30-4 p.m.
  • July 13, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Aug. 10, 9-10:30 a.m.
  • Aug. 22, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 6, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Making Feedback Work for You as a Manager looks at how supervisors can address the right issues and cultivate a positive culture of feedback. Sessions will be held:

  • July 25, 1-2:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 17, 9-10:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 19, 2:30-4 p.m.
