You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves consuming prepared meals, wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24-hours, a 24-hour inpatient stay, and collecting blood and urine samples. The meals will be provided at no cost. Overweight/Obese adult volunteers needed for study If you are between the ages of 18 -89 yrs and have a body mass index > 30 kg/m2 you may be eligible to participate in a study exploring the reason why individuals who have high BMI have an increased risk of forming calcium oxalate kidney stones. Do you experience urine leakage with a strong and sudden urge and you leak before reaching the toilet? You may be eligible to participate in this important study if you are female and 21 years of age or older, if you are experiencing urine leakage with the feeling of urgency, coughing, sneezing, or laughing. You may be eligible to participate in the UAB’s Cardiovascular Research Biobank (CARBON), a repository of biological samples that will be used for future research about heart disease, diabetes, genomics, and more. The UAB Epilepsy Center is looking for participants aged 15 and older for a brain imaging study. Eligible individuals will have psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) without co-morbid epilepsy. The study involves one visit at UAB Highlands Hospital and will last up to 2.5 hours. Participants will undergo a brain MRI, complete questionnaires, and provide a small amount of blood. Are you interested in managing your weight? Men and women age 19-75 whose body mass index (BMI) range from 30-50 are needed for SWOP, a two-year study investigating the effects of daily self-weighing. Some participants will be asked to weigh themselves daily for two years using the study-provided scale that will pair with the participant's own smartphone. All participants will be asked to complete brief visits at UAB every 6 months (a total of five visits). Compensation provided.
