As UAB Football prepares to take on Central Arkansas during the season opener 7 p.m. Thursday, Blazers should remember both familiar guidelines and new protocols for safety in Legion Field this season.

UAB optometrists and ophthalmologists worked with lead medical personnel from UAB Athletics to modify AHSAA restrictions that prohibited tinted visors or other apparatuses in competition to get accommodations for high school athletes who had light sensitivity and similar health conditions.

The strategic plan addresses the trends and challenges facing higher education and academic medical centers and sets goals and objectives around three common themes. A new metrics dashboard offers current status and annual goals for each mission pillar.

Birmingham Legion FC will play its inaugural game against the Bethlehem Steel on UAB’s newly expanded BBVA Compass Field.

The UA System Board of Trustees approved the construction of BBVA Compass Field for UAB Men’s and Women’s Soccer. Located south of University Boulevard just east of I-65, the field — to be ready by fall 2015 — will be the first impression visitors encounter as they enter campus from I-65.

Jerod Haase was named UAB's fifth head basketball coach March 27.

Coach Gene Bartow did more than shape the UAB Athletics program. His influence stretched to all those around him.

The UAB family has just a few days left to vote for the UAB Marching Blazers as they vie for a $50,000 grant in the Pepsi Challenge.

After 23 years, the lower-level seats in Bartow Arena have been ripped out, recycled and are in the process of being replaced.

UAB’s Disc Golf Team recently competed in the the 2011 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship in Augusta, Ga.

For UAB men’s golf coach Alan Kaufman, it was a big boost for a program that will now be forever linked with a U.S. Open champion — alum Graeme McDowell.
