Eligible participants must be Healthy men and women, African American or Caucasians and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing exercise, taking metoprolol, consuming prepared meals, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated. We are looking for Black or White women ages 65-75 with knee pain due to osteoarthritis, who are willing to follow a prepared diet for 6 weeks. The commitment to this study will last approximately 7 weeks and include 1 telephone screen, 2 visits to UAB where you will fill out questionnaires and have blood taken, 4 visits to UAB where you will fill out questionnaires and have pain assessed, and 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per day provided for 6 weeks. African American men and women ages 50-65 needed for study on lifetime stress and brain functioning. We want to pay people who identify as African American/Black to help us see if stress and other lifestyle factors can protect their mental health and their brain health. This knowledge is especially important to understand as people face difficult situations and might be at risk for Alzheimer’s disease. All information collected will be kept confidential. The study involves two visits lasting 2-3 hours each, including one MRI at UAB Highlands Hospital. A check of $75 will be mailed to you at the end of the study. You could be eligible for a research study examining changes in blood pressure during the day and night. This study involves 3 visits that are completed within 3 weeks. The first two visits are to determine your eligibility (visit 1: 45-60min, visit 2: 15-20 min). The third visit is a 30-hour weekend stay at the UAB Sleep-Wake Disorders Clinic in UAB Hospital-Highlands. Participants will provide saliva and cheek swab samples while having their blood pressure and core body temperature monitored while awake for 30 hours. Compensation will be provided at the end of the study. Participants must be Black males, age 18+ with no hypertension, migraines, seizures or history of personality disorders, bipolar disorders or psychosis. Black men ages 16-35 needed for STI prevention study. We are looking for black or African American men to participate in a small confidential group discussion. The discussion is to understand the types of sexual health care services that are most desirable. To qualify, you must be male who has, at any time, had sex with another male.
