The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a change to the criteria for determining employees’ status as nonexempt (paid bi-weekly) or exempt (paid monthly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is not a UAB decision; it is a federal law all employers must follow.

Annalise Sorrentino, M.D., professor in the Department of Pediatrics, will take on the role Oct. 1, 2024. She replaces Frank Messina, Ph.D., professor in the Collat School of Business, who has served as UAB’s FAR since 2008 and is retiring from UAB at the end of September.

You may be eligible to participate in a research study: If you are a healthy female, between age of 18-50, still having a regular menstrual cycle & you are NOT on hormonal birth control (birth control pills or shots (i.e. Depo shot) or IUD, like Mirena). And, if you are willing to undergo an endometrial biopsy procedure and blood draw.

A Phase 3, Randomized, Multicenter, Open-label Study to Investigate the Efficacy and Safety of Retatrutide Once Weekly Compared with Semaglutide Once Weekly in Adult Participants with Type 2 Diabetes and Inadequate Glycemic Control with Metformin with or without SGLT2 Inhibitor (TRANSCEND-T2D-2)

TRANSCEND-T2D-2 is a clinical research study for people with type 2 diabetes.
This study will test if an investigational medicine (the medicine being studied) can
help with blood glucose (sugar) and weight management compared with an existing
treatment for type 2 diabetes.

  • Are aged 18 years or older
  • Have type 2 diabetes
  • Have been taking 1500mg or more of metformin each day for at least 3 months (with or without SGLT2i)
  • Have a BMI of 25 or more
  • Have HbA1c levels of 7.0% to 10.5%
