Eric Essix joins ASC as teacher, artist coordinator
Eric Essix, a Birmingham native and accomplished jazz guitarist and recording artist, has somewhat traded in the make-a-record tour, make-a-record tour lifestyle he has lived for much of the past 20 years. He’ll continue to make music and tour, but he says he wants to focus more on helping artists and students.

UAB is one of 14 emergency response learning centers
UAB faculty and staff have been training organizations and first responders — ranging from law enforcement officials to first receivers to veterinarians — for a decade through the Center for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP). The organization includes a partnership with Tulane University and the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Adaptive optics 3-D instrument opens window to eye disease
Yuhua Zhang, an assistant professor of ophthalmology, has developed an adaptive-optics, 3-D imaging instrument that provides an unprecedented view of the human eye that ophthalmologists can use to identify and treat human-eye diseases.

Peds/Adolescent Gynecologic Clinic provides care, education
The UAB Pediatric/Adolescent Gynecologic Clinic within Children’s Hospital positions UAB and Children’s Hospital as leaders in diagnosis and treatment of pediatric and adolescent gynecologic disorders and is one of only two such dedicated children’s clinics in the Birmingham area.
