Participants between the ages of 65-89, and individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease between the ages of 45-89 are needed for a research study on walking. This study is being done to assess how well individuals can modify walking patterns. If you qualify, we anticipate that your participation in the study will span a single study visit, with a total time commitment of 3 hours. You will be compensated for your time. Drew Sayer, Ph.D., is a pioneer in the use of sequential multiple-assignment, randomized trials, known as SMARTs, for weight-loss research. His studies test several interventions at once to speed the search for solutions tailored to specific groups.
The purpose of the SCIPE study is to examine two 8-week remotely delivered exercise interventions: Movement-to-Music, and Standard Exercise Training. Enrolled participants will be randomized into one of three groups: M2M, SET, or attention control. The primary goal of this study is to examine changes in physical activity levels after the 8-week M2M and SET interventions. We hypothesize that M2M and SET participants will have significant increases in physical activity, sleep quality, quality of life, and decreases in pain compared to the Attention Control group after the 8-week intervention. The secondary aim is to examine the effects of the M2M and SET interventions on health and quality of life outcomes. Exercise enjoyment in M2M and SET participants will also be explored. The tertiary aim is to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and psychosocial variables of two participant groups: 1) compliant participants who completed ≥ 50% of the intervention, and 2) non-compliant participants who completed post-testing but only 50% of the intervention, or did not complete post-testing. The SCIPE study will take place entirely online. The exercise program will be delivered to you in a video format, so you can exercise anywhere that is convenient for you. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Nutrition Sciences, is conducting a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of an investigational drug to treat people with Type 2 Diabetes and obesity. We are looking for adults with type 2 diabetes for an exciting research study to see whether intermittent fasting and/or using light therapy can improve your blood sugar, improve your overall health, and reset your body clock. Participants will either eat early in the day, graze throughout the day, and/or use a special light therapy box or glasses. You may be eligible if you have type 2 diabetes, are 30-80 years old, are not taking insulin, and usually wake up between 5:00 and 9:00 am. The main part of the study lasts 16 weeks and involves two overnight tests in our clinic (which can be done on weekends, if preferred). Participants will receive $2400 for completing the study.

We are looking for adults for an exciting research study to see whether meal timing can improve your blood sugar and your overall health. Participants will be randomly selected to either graze throughout the day, skip breakfast, or skip dinner for 8 weeks. You may be eligible if you are 30-70 years old, are overweight, are not taking diabetes medication, and wake up between 5:00 and 8:00 am regularly. Adults with prediabetes, blood sugar issues, or a family history of diabetes are encouraged to apply. This study involves two overnight tests in our clinic plus eating only food that we provide you. Could a low-sugar diet overcome insulin issues and a lifetime of weight struggles? That’s the question being studied by Barbara Gower, Ph.D., in a five-year, $1.9 million study.

We are seeking volunteers for a research study looking at the role of dietary protein and resistance training in weight loss. The study will last approximately 12 months. Participants will participate in the State of Slim weight loss program and receive body composition scans and lab work at no charge. Participants will meet in virtual group classes on a weekly basis for 4 months and monthly virtual group classes for the remainder of the year. Participants will receive monetary stipends totaling $300 to reimburse for time and travel to study classes and study visits. You may qualify for this weight loss research study if you: Are 50 years old or older. Have obesity (BMI of 30-50 kg/m2 or 25-50 kg/m² if you use a wheelchair). We are seeking volunteers for a research study looking at the role of different components of a lifestyle intervention program in family medicine clinics. The study will last approximately 6 months. Participants will receive nutrition or exercise counseling and receive body composition scans and lab work at no charge. Participants will receive weekly counseling sessions for the first 2 months of the study, and bi-monthly counseling sessions for the remaining 4 months of the study. The purpose of the Feed Me Study is to examine the naturally occurring bacteria in the gut of women and the impact these bacteria may have on weight loss. We are looking for women who are non-Hispanic black or non-Hispanic white. Generally healthy ages 19-65 and currently overweight. Participation involves eating study-provided meals only for 4 weeks, completing questionnaires, basic body measurements, and providing stool and blood samples. UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is conducting a nutrition study looking at the effects of diet in adults with type 2 diabetes, high blood sugar, for less than 5 years. The ROME study is designed to discover how exercise affects the gut microbiome and fatigue in breast cancer survivors. This study includes 10 weeks of supervised, individual exercise sessions with exercise specialists. The study is funded by the National Cancer Institute. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 70 with a history of stage I, II or III breast cancer within the last five years.
