The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB are seeking volunteers for a phase 1 HIV prevention study. This study is to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of synthetic DNAs encoding in adults without HIV. This trial is in search of healthy HIV negative adults between the ages of 18-55. Procedures will include blood draws and injections of study vaccine, as well as the collection of white blood cells. White blood cells will be collected by a procedure called leukapheresis. Participants will be compensated for their efforts in this study.

This medication is related to blood pressure and is safe to take with or without hypertension. This study may provide clues for the prevention of skin cancer. We are seeking 18-35 year old individuals, without a history of skin cancer, who are capable of being sunburned and who are not currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant the next 2 months. We are looking for people who identify as trans or cisgender, are 18-65 years of age and would like to take part in a research study examining the impact of gender identity, hormone levels and sex assigned at birth to pain sensitivity and immune cell activity. The commitment to this study will last approximately 3 hours where you will fill out questionnaires, have a single blood draw and take part in pain sensitivity testing. Participants must: Be free from certain health conditions (HIX+, cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension). Participants can be on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or not. We are seeking volunteers for a research study looking at the role of dietary protein and resistance training in weight loss. The study will last approximately 12 months. Participants will participate in the State of Slim weight loss program and receive body composition scans and lab work at no charge. Participants will meet in virtual group classes on a weekly basis for 4 months and monthly virtual group classes for the remainder of the year. Participants will receive monetary stipends totaling $300 to reimburse for time and travel to study classes and study visits.


You may qualify for this weight loss research study if you:
• Are 50 years old or older
• Have obesity (BMI of 30-50 kg/m2)

We are currently seeking Gulf War Veterans to participate in a brain imaging research study. Healthy Gulf War Veterans and Veterans with chronic health problems are invited to participate. Participation involves 1-2 visits to UAB for 2.5 hours total. Participants undergo MRI brain scan, blood draw, and complete several questionnaires. Help us find out by joining our study.  The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Nutrition Sciences, is conducting an exciting research study, in collaboration with Pennington Biomedical Research Center, to investigate whether intermittent fasting or calorie restriction (i.e., losing weight) can improve health and slow the aging process.   

If you are randomly selected to do calorie restriction, you may lose weight by eating less. If you are randomly selected to do intermittent fasting, you will fast for 16 hours per day and eat dinner by 6 pm about 6 days per week (1 break day per week). We want you to be successful: the study provides intensive coaching and support to help you successfully lose weight or practice intermittent fasting.  

To qualify, you should: 

  • Be 25-45 years old  
  • Have a BMI between 22-30 Calculate your BMI here  
  • Be healthy 
  • Not currently taking any medications or supplements for chronic conditions 
  • Not smoke, vape, or use tobacco products currently or within the last 6 months 
  • Not currently participate in a regular program of heavy physical activity (e.g., jogging, running, or riding fast on a bicycle for 30 minutes or more per day)
The study involves collecting a medical history, body fat and bone scans, blood draws, urine collection, questionnaires, and other simple tests.  Participation in the study will last approximately 7 months.  Compensation of up to $850 is offered for the completion of this study.
