The Office of Faculty & Academic Affairs, led by Jennifer Christy, Ph.D., Interim Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, supports the academic mission and curriculum of the UAB School of Health Professions. We oversee and guide the academic advancement and development processes and programs. Our office includes the Learning Resource Center team and the Instructional Design & Support team. Our mission is to provide resources, structure and a quality educational experience for our students and to support SHP faculty in research and scholarship.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers rooms, resources, and a highly trained support staff to serve your needs. We offer a variety of materials and resources, free for checkout, designed to support all your academic endeavors.

Commons Area
Conveniently located just past the entrance facing University Boulevard, the Commons Area features lounge spaces and communal tables perfect for studying and group collaboration. For added convenience, the area is equipped with two WEPA networked printers, allowing students to print documents on demand.
Room Resources
The LRC offers classroom space, meeting rooms, and testing labs for all School of Health Professions’ faculty, staff, and students. Through UAB’s 25live online booking system, you can reserve spaces across multiple locations, including the Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering (CBSE), the Learning Resource Center (LRC), Lister Hill Library (LHL), the School of Health Professions Building (SHPB), and the Webb Building (WEBB). SHP Student Awards
The School of Health Professions annually recognizes outstanding SHP undergraduate and graduate students through the Student Awards Program. Nominations for the 2026 awards are due Friday, March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m, and should be submitted by the nominee's Program Director.
The Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs will send specific nomination instructions to Program Directors. The SHP Awards and Recognition Committee will review and select awardees.
SHP Awards are open to all full time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a SHP program. The awards include:
SHP Dean’s Leadership and Service Award
The Dean’s Leadership and Service Award is presented to no more than three outstanding students for leadership and service to the school, UAB, and the community. Program Directors may nominate more than one student from their program. Candidates are evaluated on GPA and other scholastic awards and achievements, collegiate and program-related public service activities while enrolled in SHP, other collegiate activities prior to enrolling in SHP, and community activities.
SHP Alfred W. Sangster Award for Outstanding International Student
The Alfred W. Sangster Award for Outstanding International Student is presented each year in recognition of the student's academic and non-academic accomplishments. More than one international student may be nominated from each program.
SHP Cecile Clardy Satterfield Award for Humanism in Health Care
The Cecile Clardy Satterfield Award for Humanism in Health Care is awarded to one student for humanitarianism, professionalism and commitment to health care. Program directors may make nominations based on recommendations by faculty, clinical supervisors, students, and/or patients. These recommenders should be acknowledged on the recommendation letter. More than one student may be nominated from a program.
SHP Charles Brooks Award for Creativity
The Charles Brooks Award for Creativity is presented to one outstanding student in recognition of creative accomplishments (written publications, artistic contributions, etc.) which complemented the student’s academic activities in the school and UAB. More than one student may be nominated from each program.
