The following is a message from UAB Staff Council Chair Lauren Humphreys.
The year 2025 was a busy year for the UAB Staff Council, and I would love to share some noteworthy accomplishments. We hosted the 2025 Spring Staff Forum on Feb. 4 with UAB leaders who shared updates about the SUCCESS initiative, Title IX, and institutional branding. On Oct. 1 we held the 2025 Fall Staff Picnic at Bartow Arena, bringing together staff members from across campus to enjoy a meal. Staff Council committees worked incredibly hard to engage with the UAB community in many ways.
- Our Executive Committee members participated in interview panels, advisory boards, and represented the council on many campus committees.
- The Bylaws and Elections Committee reviewed the election cycle calendar to make it more effective and introduced and passed two new bylaws.
- The Communications and Website Committee published newsletters in the spring, summer, and fall. Committee members also created and published marketing materials, regularly updated council meetings and events on the campus calendar, and submitted articles to the eReporter.
- The Community Outreach Committee introduced projects such as Notes of Care, a UAB NICU partnership project, Blazer Kitchen volunteer shifts, donation drives, and participated in many other volunteer opportunities to support campus initiatives.
- The Institutional Pride and Events Committee produced several events promoting staff engagement including Be Seen Serving in Green, Be Seen Chilling in Green, Be Seen Walking in Green, and Be Seen Eating in Green, in addition to the weekly events for Be Seen in Green supporting UAB Athletics. Committee members also coordinated the Staff Picnic, Spring Forum, and the council’s participation in the 2025 Homecoming Parade.
- The Staff Development and Recognition Committee partnered with UAB Learning and Development to plan and host a very successful three-part career series, including a panel presentation with four campus leaders.
As we look ahead to the rest of 2026, I am excited to continue our work supporting UAB staff members, providing opportunities for campus engagement and promoting UAB’s Shared Values.
