Faculty members must first complete the Academic Planning Process with the Provost’s Office before submitting materials to the Board Liaison.

Types of Academic Planning Items

  1. Creation of New Academic Degree Programs
  2. Creation of New Certificates
  3. Creation of New Tracks/Concentrations
  4. Alterations to Existing Programs
  5. Deletion/Inactivation of Academic Programs

All new academic degree programs, certificates, tracks/concentrations, alterations to existing programs, and deletions/inactivations must be submitted to the Board for review, approval, and/or information.

Process

  1. Submission to Board Liaison
    The Associate Vice Provost for Assessment, Accreditation, and Academic Planning will submit all required items to the Board Liaison, who will review and edit as necessary.
  2. Internal Approvals
    The Board Liaison will secure approvals from the Provost, President, and Legal Counsel before forwarding the submission to the UA System Office for review.
  3. System Office Review
    The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs (UAS) will review the submission, request any additional information, and coordinate meetings with schools and the Provost’s Office to discuss the proposed academic programs.
  4. ACHE Submission
    Once approved by the UA System Office, the Board Liaison will notify the Provost, Deans, and Vice Presidents via email.
    Dr. Katrina Mintz is responsible for submitting materials to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE).
  5. Final Board Approval (New Degree Programs Only)
    For new academic degree programs, after ACHE approval, the UA System Office will submit the proposal back to the Board for final approval.
  6. Final Notification
    The Board Liaison will receive the final approval notification from the UA System Office and distribute it to the Provost, Deans, and Vice Presidents.
