The establishment of new endowed chairs or professorships must be approved by the board. The Office of Advancement manages the establishment of new endowed faculty positions in collaboration with development officers and academic departments.
Process:
- Submission to Board Liaison:
The Office of Advancement will forward the submission package to the Board Liaison. The submission must include:
Board Agenda Item Recommendation Form - Must include approval signatures from Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and Senior Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives- Advancement’s Resolution Routing Form -Must include approval signatures from Advancement Office, Office of the Vice President for Financial Affairs and Administration and Legal Counsel
- Letter of Recommendation - From the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and the Senior Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives, addressed to the President
- Resolution - Sent electronically to the Board Liaison as a Word document
- Confirmation Letter of Funds Received - From the Director of the Office of Gifts and Records Administration
- Memorandum - From the Assistant Director of Gift Administration and Data to the UAB Chief Financial Officer requesting a new financial account for the endowment. Must include the CFO’s approval signature
- Gift Agreement
- Internal Approvals
The Board Liaison will prepare the President’s letter of recommendation and obtain approvals from the President and Legal Counsel. - System Office Submission
Once all approvals are secured, the Board Liaison will transmit the submission package to the System Office. - Final Notification
The Board Liaison will receive the final approval notification from the System Office and distribute the information via email to the Provost, Deans, and Vice Presidents.
