In-person, classroom-based, and online courses relevant to investigators, study coordinators, financial staff, regulatory coordinators, and other research staff are available, with emphases on Good Clinical Practices (GCP), compliance, and other key topics.

  • CCTS Lunch & Learn

    • What: A presentation of updates from various UAB research entities, including the CCTS, Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Institutional Review Board (IRB), OnCore, and more.
    • Why: To provide critical guidance on new or changing requirements and support the conduct of clinical research at UAB (and beyond).
    • When: Quarterly
    • Who: All clinical research teams, regardless of study type or foci, are encouraged to send at least one person to attend and take back updates to their team and home office.

  • Research Orientation Program (ROP)

    • What: A one-session, high-level overview of how to implement a sponsored or investigator-initiated study, including key clinical, regulatory and financial requirements. 
    • Why: To provide basic tools, familiarize attendees with research study terms, and help those new to research avoid common pitfalls.
    • When: Offered every 2-3 months | 9AM-12:30PM 
    • Who: For young investigators and research staff who are new to research, as well as any who could use a refresher course in key aspects of a clinical trial. The CCTS strongly encourages new faculty, coordinators, budget and regulatory staff to attend. *Attendees may earn 4 AMAPRA Category 1 CME credits.

  • Research Training Program (RTP)

    • What: In-depth training on essential areas of research with key leaders in research at UAB over six sessions. This program provides academic training in the principles required to excel in today’s dynamic clinical research environment.
    • Why: To educate on implementing and managing a clinical study or trial with an emphasis on Good Clinical Practices (GCP), compliance, and other key topics
    • When: This is a six-week program, offered in the spring and fall, meeting once per week from 1-4:30pm.
    • Who: Appropriate for study coordinators, billing staff, regulatory coordinators, and other research staff. 
    • Cost: $150 enrollment fee.
    • Upcoming Dates: Next session begins April 16, 2024 and goes through May 21, 2024.

  • Clinical Investigator Training Program (CITP)

    • What: CITP is a hands-on didactic and pragmatic training and education program to prepare new investigators in the conduct and implementation of human subject research.
    • Why: To promote awareness of the role and responsibility of principal investigators in the conduct of clinical research and good clinical practice (GCP) competencies for investigators conducting clinical research. To enhance investigator awareness of the administrative infrastructure supporting clinical research at UAB, and promote its effective utilization to enable efficient time-to-trial-activation. 
    • When: Tuesday afternoons ( 1-5 pm) for five weeks.
    • Who: The program is designed for those with MDs, DOs, DMDs, and PhDs, with a heavy emphasis on the responsibilities of investigators when overseeing clinical trials with humans.* Former CITP Participants (2020-2022)
    • Upcoming Dates: Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20, Feb. 27, Mar. 5 | 1-5 pm
    *The Clinical Investigator Training Program generally receives admission applications in numbers that exceed the number of available spaces. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 2nd at 5 pm.   • Research Seminar Series
    • What: Brief presentations on topics such as IRB Updates, Clinical Trial Recruitment, Clinical Trial Billing, Best Budget Practices, Informed Consenting, HIPAA Regulations, and more!
    • Why: The goal of this program is to fill any gaps in information related to the implementation of clinical trials that have been identified by investigators and their research teams.
    • When: Offered the first and third Thursday of each month. Usually from 12:00-1:00 pm.
    • Who: Seminar topics will be of interest and relevance to clinical research personnel including investigators, regulatory personnel, study coordinators and financial administrators. *CME credits provided for each session.
