A 2017 CCTS Community Health Engagement Award (CHIA) winner, Shellie Layne, also an alum of the Individual Development Account program, administered by the United Way of Central Alabama's Financial Services Partnership, was recently in the news for the great strides she has made both personally and with her business, At Home Foundation.

In his recent Congressional budget briefing, NIH Director Dr. Francis S. Collins extolled the translational science of Dr. Stephen Aller, who has integrated a cutting-edge technology (cryo-electron microscopy) into his Cystic Fibrosis research on the misfolding of membrane proteins that contributes to the symptoms and shortened life expectancy of those with this disease.

CCTS One Great Community Chair and UAB Collat School of Business Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship Dr. Anthony C. Hood explored sources of team conflict and provided evidence-based advice on how to minimize and resolve it.

Negotiating a fair, appropriate budget is only the first in a series of steps PIs and their teams can take toward operating a solvent clinical trial. The July CCTS Forum featured a panel of experts who shared their tips for successfully managing clinical trial budgets.

CCTS and the UAB Informatics Institute will cohost this half-day “speed session” on Thur. July 27, providing an overview of key biomedical informatics topics such as re-use of health data, bioinformatics, clinical terminologies, and data organization and structure. Registrants will receive materials prior to the event.

Have fun while mastering required NIH policies for rigor, reproducibility, and transparency (R2T) in our online Kaizen game! The next round of this highly popular approach to learning competencies will run July 17-Aug. 7. Kaizen R2T is open to players at any professional level across the CCTS Partner Network.
