Dan Butcher, M.A., M.L.I.S., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of English faculty as an instructor.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dan Butcher, M.A., M.L.I.S., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of English faculty as an instructor. He will teach two sections of the department’s online English composition courses this semester.

Butcher was an instructor from 1993 to 2000 at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he helped to start the English department’s distance learning program. He taught courses in composition as well as American and British literature.

He was the lead editor of Acts of Discovery: A Reader published in 1996 by Harcourt Brace Custom Publishing and later wrote the online supplement to the reader in 1998. In addition, he co-authored the companion Web site for The Allyn And Bacon Guide to Writing by Allyn and Bacon in 1999.

Butcher earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Mississippi in 1986. He earned his master’s degrees in both English and library and information science from Louisiana State University in 1990.
