BIRMINGHAM, AL — Barbara Wech, Ph.D., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business faculty as an assistant professor of management in the management, marketing and industrial distribution department.

Wech comes to UAB from Louisiana State University, where she was a management instructor. She recently completed her doctoral degree in business administration at LSU.

“UAB is an excellent fit for me,” Wech said. “I had many teaching options but came to UAB because of the quality of the school and because it is an urban university. I received my undergraduate degree at an urban university, and it was important to me to teach at a place like UAB. UAB is an important educational source for the community, and I am pleased to be part of this educational team.”

“Barbara’s background in human resource management and research in organizational management is an asset to UAB,” says Michael Bowers, Ph.D., chair of the department of management, marketing and industrial distribution. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, teaching and research talent to the table that will help educate our students and well prepare them for the workforce.”

Wech earned her master’s degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Before completing her doctoral degree, Wech worked for seven years in human resource management for Monsanto Co. and its subsidiary Fisher Controls International Inc. She has been published in a number of journals, including Small Group Research and Psychological Reports and has had papers presented at a number of conferences, including the Southern Management Association.
