BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - J. Austin Davis of Birmingham won the 2009 smart® fortwo pure coupe worth nearly $14,000 given away by the Alys Stephens Center Thursday night, Nov. 5.

The car was awarded as part of the "Get smART, Support the Arts" fundraising campaign. The Alys Stephens Center Junior Patrons' two-month campaign raised money to support ASC programs and art education initiatives. The smart® fortwo is the most fuel efficient, non-hybrid vehicle on sale in the United States.

To win the car, three finalists were drawn at random from all entries and competed in a test of skill; each of the three had to guess how many bottles of smartwater were in the car. Davis came closest with a guess of 145 - the actual number of bottles within the car was 247.

"Get smART, Support the Arts" was sponsored by Crown Automobile Co., RBC Bank, Mental Floss magazine, UAB, the ASC-JPs, Fox 6, smartwater and Commercial Printing.
