PLEASE NOTE: To protect the health and safety of our communities, UAB has canceled all non-essential gatherings and events at this time. Campus Watch meetings have been canceled until further notice.  Community members are discouraged from holding events, meetings, or activities involving greater than 10 people if the gathering is not essential to ongoing operations.

What is UAB Campus Watch?

Campus Watch is a group program organized and run by the employees, staff, and students at UAB. It is a mutual support group of employees, staff, and students, helping each other and the UAB Police & Public Safety Department, by being alert, observing, and reporting to the police. Campus Watch is a means by which employees, staff and students can reduce and deter crime on campus.

Organization and activity is the responsibility of the campus watch group. Guidance will be given by the UAB Police & Public Safety Department, but interest and activity must be generated by the employees, staff, and students. Campus Watch is intended to help reduce campus crime by acting as a deterrent to those who are about to commit a crime. The employees, staff, and students are responsible for the success of the group. We, the members of the UAB Campus Watch Program, recognize that crime prevention involves the anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk.

A concentrated, cooperative effort by the UAB community is essential to help eliminate or reduce crime on campus. Campus Watch is the people of UAB looking out for each other.

We as individuals and as members of this academic community can no longer afford to pay the staggering price of crime. The personal and economic costs are too high. The victims of crime are forever changed in the way they feel about themselves and their society. You, as a Campus Watcher, have the opportunity to contribute something positive to our community. Through your involvement in crime prevention, each and every one of you can help make our campus not only safer, but a better place to live, work, and study.

Through community involvement in crime prevention efforts, each and every member of the UAB can help make the University of Alabama at Birmingham a safe friendly environment conducive to learning, working, studying, and living. Together we can make a difference.

Awareness is the key to prevention!
